The ResidencesMessage from the developerWhen I was a boy, we had a summer camp in Glen Cove on Big Squam in the Town of Holderness.
Developing land overlooking Little Squam Lake was never in my plan, but here we are. I feel blessed for the opportunity and overwhelmed with the obligation to the generations I’ve followed, the families I know, the friends I am fortunate to have and the kids who will learn from our choices. I believe it is our mutual responsibility to preserve the quality of the Squam Lakes through combining responsible development, historic restoration and conservation of our natural assets. Whether we like it or not, the world around us is growing and the pressure from this growth will challenge us to think in new ways of how to preserve the quality of life here at the lake. I believe development and conservation will need to co-exist in order to assist in the conservation of the undeveloped areas surrounding Squam.
Other sections of this website are associated with marketing collaterals, architectural renderings, engineered plans, legal documents, etc… all speak to the technical aspects of a real estate development of this type. To me, these parts of the project only represent the work we have to do, not the way we have to do it or the reasons why we are doing it. There are many choices a developer considers during the planning and production phases of any project. I promise you, our choices will be driven by Squam, the place we call home. One winter my family’s life changed and our time on Squam drifted away for many years to follow. During these years, wherever I was, Squam remained home to me, though I was seldom able to find my way back to the lake. As I grew professionally, my career advanced developing Real Estate projects of many types through out New England. Finally, several years ago, I was able to build a house in Holderness with one of the best friends a person could ever have. He helped me to remember the importance of family and having a home. I live and work in Holderness now. The longer I live here, the more I have begun to understand many of us who live here have an inner compass and history which has served to guide us back.
Our intent in planning the Squam River Landing development involves low density housing, architectural replications with summer camp design origins, local economic development, new infrastructure and land preservation. The land associated with this development is connected to a public sewer system, has permissive, high density zoning in a community in need of economic development. This land could be improperly developed resulting in substantial tree removal and high density housing with unacceptable architectural designs. None of the other surrounding mountains or communities I am aware of are subject to development risk of this significance.
