Plymouth, NH: by Michael Tentnowski, Leadership Academy Class of 2014 – The dynamic agenda for the inaugural class of the local Leadership Academy started off with a bang, as Jim Roche, President of the Business & Industry Association (BIA) addressed the group at the newly completed Enterprise Center at Plymouth. Mr. Roche covered the general mission of the BIA as New Hampshire’s statewide Chamber and business advocacy organization. He then described the Strategic Economic Development Plan for the state, which includes nine strategic goals that are the focus of BIA’s 2014 activities.
Upon wrapping up the informative presentation, Jim fielded questions from the group. Issues such as the Northern Pass project, business taxes, and attracting new companies to New Hampshire were discussed. One of the more challenging questions arose when a Leadership member asked Mr. Roche if he knew why companies such as Sturm, Ruger & Co., Inc. are expanding outside the state of New Hampshire. The answer is complicated of course, but isn’t a shame that we cannot encourage one of the major high-tech manufacturing companies to expand in the very state that helped them win Manufacturer of the Year for seven years in a row? … [ read more ]

The “Discovery Home” at Squam River Landing is a thoughtfully planned, carefully crafted, high performance home, inspired by the heritage of the cottages and camps of the Squam Lakes. Designed and built by Sippican Partners Construction, our ‘Discovery Home’ is a learning center for understanding how to finance, budget, design, build and operate a new home in today’s market. Come see why our home was chosen to participate in the 2013 NH Lakes Region Parade of Homes!
Squam River Landing is excited to announce our participation in this year’s Lakes Region Builders & Remodelers Association Parade of Homes. The Discovery Home architecture was designed by Sippican Partners Construction and is influenced by the Squam Lake cottage camps of yesteryear and built with today’s high performance construction.
A typical home that is featured in the Parade of Homes is staged and furnished but our thinking on the Discovery Home is different- our home will be staged in a way that educates today’s potential home buyers. During your tour of the home you will experience the ins and outs of financing, budgeting, designing, building and operating an energy efficient home. Interactive kiosks around the home will help you learn about the different products that go into the high performance construction and our key team members will also be on site to answer questions about what it takes to build your new home.
Mark your calendars and get ready for a great Parade of Homes! Visit the Lakes Region Builders & Remodelers Association Parade of Homes website or follow them on Facebook.
What does Tuckerman’s Ravine have to do with managing a real estate development project?
Tuckerman’s Ravine is a forbidding and barren rock face locally known as the birthplace of extreme skiing. The highest wind speeds ever recorded, waterfalls and massive boulders converge to serve as the foundation to hold a winter’s worth of snow measuring up to a depth of 150 feet. Each spring, as the harsh edges of the passing winter eases, the challenge to conquer this ravine begins, and the formidable obstacles are overcome. The climb to base camp demands strength, endurance, tenacity and purpose. The descent is an act of faith, followed by clear sense of accomplishment. The ravine conquered, the obstacles overcome, the goal achieved. … [ read more ]

Anyone who lives in or visits the Lakes Region should be required to watch the 1981 film “On Golden Pond” with Katherine Hepburn and Henry Fonda. There should be theaters at Exit 23 and 24 so anyone headed over to Squamcould pull in, watch the show, and decompress before they can venture near the lake. In short, “on Golden Pond” is a story about an aging couple who have a summer cottage on Squam. Their daughter, with whom Dad has trouble communicating, … [ read more ]
New Hampshire is well known for its access to all things outdoors. In fact CNBC voted New Hampshire as “the best state to live in” for 2012 based on a quality of life ranking system. We could go on and on about how great we think this part of the world is but let’s just jump right into what we think are the best walking trails around Squam Lake.
A short drive from Squam River Landing is the Chamberlain-Reynolds Memorial Forest. The forest, locally known as “NEFFA“, has been managed by the Squam Lakes Association since 1953 when it was donated by the New England Forestry Foundation. This place has it all: over a mile of beautiful Squam Lake waterfront, level terrain, sandy beaches and walkable trails. Oh, and did we mention that dogs are allowed?! … [ read more ]
I was speaking with a customer recently who is going to build a home here at Squam River Landing. Our discussion prompted him to ask a simple question yet my answer gave both of us a greater appreciation for life here at Squam. He asked, “What makes living at Squam Lake special compared to other beautiful lake communities?” I need to first point out that the answer is really more about the “why” and not the “what.” Yes, there are many areas in and around New Hampshire to have a home whether you enjoy living near the water or the mountains. Squam Lake like other areas in the lakes region of New Hampshire has many homes with owners from away. This means the homes are considered vacation or second homes for the residents. … [ read more ]
